Report written by Michael
A change of task as out flyers weren't ready for the task advertised, so we chose to go back to litterpick around Adamsdown Primary, and the playground opposite.
A shorter run and a nice introduction to our newest goodgymer,
Croeso Jihaad
Michael, slightly wobbly after the lovetrails festival, led the group to the location, where they were going to be met by three cyclists. A nice 50/50 split tonight.
The runners arrived early and though it would be good to just get on with the job in hand, or litterpicker. However, the local children had other ideas. The sudden site of the strange long picking devices pulled at their interest, and suddenly they swarmed around with questions. Only to keen to answer, we tried our best to explain what we were doing and even showed them how to use the litterpickers. It wasn't too long before the children were taking it in turns and picking litter around the school themselves. Michael went over to the parents opposite for a brief chat and to explain what goodgym was all about.
Contact with nature is a crucial part of sustainability education in early childhood education and care. This helps children develop an appreciation for the Earth and all its inhabitants. Hopefully a little of what we tried to teach the children sticks, and maybe they even take it back to school.
Once all of the goodgym crew had arrived it was time to thank the children for their help and take over the tidying duties. We continued around the school before heading over to the playground opposite and the surrounding land. We managed three bags of rubbish before heading back to the city for a chat at our start location.
Next week is on a Thursday, it's a task that is worth the change in day so get signed up NOW.

I had so much fun! I loved turning them into climate activists and I hope they went back to school the next day chanting, Keep Schoools Tidy. The chances are very low this happened but hey...

Yeah honestly it was a fun surprise having the kids unexpectedly join in, still I was kind of relieved once we took the picks back. I was really worried they'd hit each other with them ๐ luckily they just wamted to put some of our stuff in the bin bags๐.

As long as they're just a little more considerate about dealing with their own rubbish I'd consider it a win
