Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
We had been asked by Paul, who runs the In the Drink campaign, an initiative that aims to clear the Thames of nasty plastics, to come down to Kew and help clear out the rubbish by the slipway. The organisation puts pressure on pubs to stop using plastic straws and single use plastic beakers as 65% rubbish taken out of the Thames is food and drink packaging. So after a a quick warm up and a chat about the Winter Olympic Sport we'd choose to medal in (we have a figure skater, ski jumper and even a G&T drinker in the group!), we set off down the river.
We soon met Paul, who handed out litter pickers, and got cracking. While Harvey did a heroic job getting the hard to reach bottles and cans, the rest of us sorted out the slipway. As usual we found quite a few interesting objects, including a couple of ornate metal pieces, and Luis even managed to spot a rat... Sevan filled up a massive plastic bin, and Andy, who had done a quick tour of other task locations before meeting us, helped top it up. Great work everyone!
After a relaxed jog back to base, we took on an intense leg blast which saw us squat to the max. Hope you're not feeling it too much today!
Next week we're off to do a bit of bramble bashing at Gunnersbury park. You can sign up for this therapeutic session right here!. Have a great week of happy running, all.
