It’s safe to say that there were a few sore heads today after Wales’ epic Grand Slam win in the rugby. However, the runners arrived with Mr J on time and ready to tackle the task ahead. Passing was not an option and it was time to scrum together.

The runners learnt that Mr J has been living in his house for 77 years. 77 years in the same house!! And it is obvious that he’s a popular and respected member of the community, with neighbours greeting him as they passed and stopping for a chat. He mentioned that he used to love gardening but since suffering from a stroke hasn’t been able to keep up so was very happy to welcome some keen Goodgymers.

Mr J has a large garden and the task ahead was to clear one corner of it. Mikey went straight to it, grabbing a pair of loppers to cut back the ivy and boy did he go for it! It was Aimee’s turn next- holding a pair of garden cutters, she set about removing more of the ivy. While all this was going on, Lowri and Emma made sure to clear up and dispose of all the garden cuttings while sorting through Mr Js old garden pots and containers. They also managed to cut down an old wooden bench Mr J had. It was no longer needed so Mr J asked if the runners could take it appart. This cleared up some space which allowed the runners to place Mr Js patio furniture somewhere accessible and easy to reach.

Luckily, the runners finished the task just in time before the heavens opened and it started to rain. Time well spent with Mr J over the moon with his new space.
