Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Leanne (she/her)
Two goodgym Yorkies ran to help Mr C with his back garden. But before we get into what happened today, here's a mission recap from the previous visit...
Three weeks ago, when Egg, Lizzie, Sean and I were tasked with tackling Mr C's back garden, you couldn't walk into it for the jungle of nettles and brambles that blocked the way. After filling up the green bin, we left the more spiky stuff in a pile next to the garage, as it tore any garden waste bag it came into contact with to shreds.
And now, back to the present mission...
Freshly mission verified Barbara was first on the scene, with Leanne not too far behind her. Our first task was to clear up the pile of thorns left behind by the previous missioners. Since they were still pretty spiky, we put as much as we could into the now empty green bin. Barbara quickly got to work with the hoe, using it to compact the waste so that we could fit more in. She declared that it was a great upper body workout, which just goes to show that Egg has indoctrinated us all into seeing the fitness benefits of everything.
At the bottom of the pile the decomposing garden waste became slightly softer, so we could start piling it into bags.
Next we gave the ground a right good forking to get rid of a few more bramble roots, and chopped back some holly to reveal a dustbin. Leanne bravely lifted the lid to find that the worst it contained was a bit of rain water. Phew!
To finish off the task, we re-purposed the hoes for a second time, and used them to rake up as much as we could from the ground. We were just in time to greet the lovely volunteers from York Neighbours who'd come to pick up the garden waste. They loaded their car up with the 8 bin bags we'd managed to fill, declaring it a job well done.
