Report written by Graham Johnson
7 brave souls fought against the rising weeds and detritus to improve this forgotten land. Sharon's wisdom told of a time when Angel Lane was not the extravagant, bendy design one sees today, but a... straight....road...and the triangle patch of engtangled shrubbery we work upon was where that road lay.
Having visited that wasteland before, most of the troops knew what they were letting themselves in for...they barely escaped with their lives the first time, but were pleasantly surprised to find that little had been added to the mounds of discarded cans of super skol and crisp packets in the two weeks that had passed since their last visit.
An inkjet colour chart stood out like a sore thumb, Kev soon dealt with that. What remained was the partially buried little bits of crap that are really hard to get at with your fingers. Fortunately some of the team had brought tools to help. And Graham forgot to bring bin bags, so lent on Rosa's resourcefulness, rifling through Charlotte's cupboards to steal some.
After battling the undergrowth for hours, Charlotte concluded that to truly rid this terrain of milky way wrappers and bits of broken umbrella it would be necessary to tear through the dry dying grass to expose the seedy underbelly. Others were quickly persuaded to do the same and soon vast swathes of bare earth shone through from which the toxic debris could be cleared more easily.
The resulting vegetation was piled high before the task was concluded for the evening... and there were some mild concerns expressed about whether someone would set fire to said pile once we left, but we came to a consensus that it would "probably be ok"...
Thus the task was concluded, many bags of rubbish disposed of properly, and some more green shoots of hope have started to spring forth that one day, that triangle of unruly weediness will reach an aesthetic level at which ordinary folk will pass by and decide not to chuck their empty red bull can in there..
