Today's gorgeous GoodGymers ran 8k to Broomfield hospital to dig an area for flowerbeds and hedges
We met at our usual time and place on a Wednesday raring to go. And then it happened...Joel got down on one knee and proposed to Rachel!!! Maybe the first ever GoodGym proposal anywhere! Well, not quite, they got engaged at the weekend while on holiday and this was a pitch-perfect reenactment. Just when we thought no news would top this Rachel then revealed it is her 100th good deed! What a day. We then set off lunging while our watches calibrated.
On the way we decided to include some fitness fun so added in squat jumps to help with our speed and springiness for later on in the run and, a little later, some wall sits while waiting for traffic to dissipate. Fay joined us on the way and after taking an actual shortcut, a rarity for us, we arrived at the task in good time.
Richard and David from the Broomfield team outlined the task. We needed to dig down and turn the earth so that hedges and flowerbeds could be planted. They had been watering the ground over the last few weeks but it still looked as dry as the Saharan Dessert. Fortunately we had Adam as a wizard with the fork and Richard mattocking through concrete like it wasn't solid at all. After 35-40 minutes of hard work, Catherine as she is on holiday for the next couple of weeks (hopefully having a great birthday), whipped out a surprise for us all - doughnuts! The age old question of to eat before the run back or after the run back was debated, so naturally I did both.
Thanking our hosts, we set off back. Speeding through Broomfield wasn't enough fitness and it was requested we do sprints through the avenues. Of course we all loved the idea (hmm...) and whipped back in no time. After stretching our limbs and stomachs with more doughnuts we voted on our social for Tuesday.
Tuesday 19th! The winning vote was Bottle Bureau at 6:15 followed by Banana Tree for around seven in order to take advantage of cocktail happy hour! Big thanks to Laurie for arranging it all. I hope to see as many of you as possible there!
Thank everyone for coming, happy running and don't forget the World Cup starts tomorrow!
