Report written by Sam Ollason
On a cold November evening, 14 runners ran to St John's Court to put up Christmas decorations with the residents. We did a super job of making their shared living space feel Christmassy and welcoming ahead of the festive period.
Welcome Laura!
After meeting inside the Leisure Centre we welcomed a new runner, Laura, to the group. We then ran along the river Avon! to St John's Court. This wasn't a very long run so we had more time to enjoy the task.
[Insert sleigh-tly good pun]
St John's Court is a shared living space. It provides a safe environment and a welcoming community for people to live near the centre of town. We met our host, Chris, who works closely with the Resident's Association there. She showed us the rooms (lacking Christmas spirit!) and a pile of decorations and told us to use our GoodGym creativity. We accepted the challenge with gusto!
To tree or not to tree
We broke off into small teams to work together and put up the decorations. In the entrance hall a team assembled a large Christmas tree and decorated it with baubles and lights. In the dining area, where their main Christmas events will be held, we put up paper chains, another Christmas tree, lots of hanging beads and tinsel! Finally, we made sure that the shared social space had it's own decorated Christmas tree, assortment of tinsel and arrangement of paper chains.
Good-Gym Merrily on high!
One of the residents even put on a 'Christmas Classics' CD. We enjoyed the Christmas tunes and got into the Christmas spirit; although based on our singing we should definitely stick to running and volunteering!
We worked alongside the residents that live their and they were incredibly impressed and very grateful for our hard work.
Sadly, Christmas 2018 will have to end (boo!) so we have volunteered to come back and help the residents take down their Christmas decorations on Saturday 5th January. Please sign up to the task here.
Thanks to Allie for backmarking for us and thanks to Joe for the pun this week!
