It was a very dark and overcast November morning when five Goodgym runners Laura, Flo, Jo, Jemma and Martin met at Global Gardens.

Poppy met the volunteers and explained the task of clearing away the brambles at the back of one of the lots. Laura, Jemma and Jo set to work cutting the brambles, Martin raked the cut brambles into a pile, while Flo dug away at some tough roots. Very soon we were taken aback by what sounded like a large bird somewhere above us. We all stopped work but couldn’t see it anywhere. Eventually we were able to make out what looked like a parrot – in Cardiff?? We returned to our work with the bird screeching above us.

We then moved on to dig some holes to plant daffodil bulbs, looking forward to seeing them grow in the spring. We left with Polly still screeching above us and wondering if s/he might still be there the next time we came to Global Gardens.
