Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by JP
It was lovely to see Mrs H again after last visiting her home about 3 years ago. On that occasion, during one of the breaks between lockdowns, two of us did a big job of cutting back an overgrown bush, before being plied with cups of tea and biscuits by the grateful Mrs H.
This time I was on my own, and the task at hand was removing the ivy from the fence, as it had started to cause serious damage and the neighbour was asking Mrs H to deal with it. She was unable to do this herself as she has arthritis in her hands, so GG stepped in to lend a hand.
Clearing ivy is actually quite a fun task. It grips onto everything with all its strength, making it super satisfying to pull from bricks and fences. So it was in Mrs H’s garden, pulling long, stubborn tentacles from the fence and cutting back / digging out roots to hold back its recolonisation.
Two large black bags were filled in the allotted time for the mission, but there is definitely going to be a follow up to finish the job!
