Report written by Emma Crowe
The flourishing planters in Jubilee Square, New Malden, were given a refresh by eight GoodGymers last night, who weeded and cleared litter, so that the area can continue to be enjoyed this summer.
After a slightly longer run/walk/cycle from the Quaker Centre to New Malden, the team - Emily, Jade, Dave, Marianne, Sabir, Tom, Emma and Rachel - got to work through the drizzle. Some jumped into the planters themselves to get stuck in!
We were careful to leave any wildlife friendly and pollinating weeds, but still managed to fill several wheelbarrows of dead vegetation, freshening up the flower beds ready for what looks like a sunny end to the week. We were also able to clear lots of little bits of litter to make it a nicer place for people to sit.
It was great to meet Marianne, a GoodGymer visiting from Bristol and work alongside Danielle O'Shaughnessy, community connector for the New Malden Town Centre Partnership.
We provide a activities and events to the local community, such as crafts, performances, exercise and support for local businesses close by.
