Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by anne malcolm
The lovely Miss P has been having a terrible time this year with an autoimmune disease. It has caused considerable pain and discomfort and made it difficult for her to breathe. She is now too weak to get in and out of her bed and as a result, she has been sleeping in her armchair for months.
To make Miss P’s life better, GoodGym were asked to help dismantle her bed to make way for a hospital bed so she can sleep more comfortably again.
Hilary and Anne were happy to lend a hand and quickly got started with the job. Miss P had very thoughtfully provided a screwdriver set. However, it turned out that what the job really needed was an Allen Key. As luck would have it, Hilary had travelled by bike and had her super-handy bike fixing gizmo with her, which was exactly what was needed to get the job done.
Mattresses were rolled up, the frame dismantled and platform slats removed and bagged up. The duo worked efficiently and systematically, taking the various parts of the bed in stages to the spare room upstairs. All the while, Miss P, chatted away and gave praise and thanks for the help she was receiving.
Within the hour, the job was complete and the two volunteers left a very happy Miss P ready to receive her hospital bed.
The volunteers were so focussed on the task that they forgot to photograph their progress and ultimate success. Instead, the report image pays tribute to the humble and ever so helpful Allen Key, although really it was Hilary's gizmo that was the real hero.
