Report written by Lilian
**This week we returned to the Food Union's allotment site on the evening of the Summer Solstice.
**
As it was a beautiful, but very hot evening, members made their own way to the allotment by walking and cycling; great ways to keep active when it's hot. Once we arrived, we were met by Greg who showed the tasks to be completed for the evening. We weeded the strawberry patch, applied wool pellets to the perimeter of the vegetable boarders to deter the hungry slugs and tidied up the raspberry canes. Whilst we worked, there was a fantastic buzz about the allotment as people were gathering to celebrate the solstice with music, food and community. We also got to check the progress of some of the plants that we had planted on our last session and share gardening tips with each other. We're pleased to report that they are doing well!
We made good progress with the weeding and had time to tidy up and enjoy some of the fantastic live music and connect with members of the Food Union. We look forward to returning to this group in the future.
We have another allotment session at the nearby Spring Board allotment coming up this weekend. Everyone is very welcome.
