Hanwell Clock Tower was a starting point where Sevan gathered us today under the guise of surveying the route from Hanwell to... Hanwell. As Madhan said, this morning we were going to solve a mystery in Hanwell like in the Scooby Doo cartoons. We had a dog, Caz, double the number of humans we needed (8 GoodGymers on a Sunday morning, wow!) and no van. With no vehicle available, we decided to walk the route and get some morning movement, GoodGym style.
We powered ourselves with a variety of hot beverages, from homemade chaii to takeaway flat whites. Our first mystery to uncover was to find out what was the legendary Golden Manor, so we took a street with the same name. The manor in question revealed itself as less golden and ancient than we expected. Thirsty for more mysterious adventures we headed towards Bunny Park. There were no bunnies in sight but Caz made friends with several lovely dogs.
We crossed a hill in the park and found a beautiful maze, sprinkled with cherry blossoms. Claire, Madhan, Mike and Milly immediately entered it, looking to uncover a mystery there. Caz joined the fun. As we could expect, she was cheating, going through the walls.
Having found the exit from the maze, we walked past Hanwell Zoo, enjoying the sight of capybaras and donkeys for free.
I can't remember when was the last time I saw a donkey in person - Madhan.
GoodGym walks offer experiences you wouldn't expect!
We followed a muddy trail, crossed the river and found ourselves under a mysterious viaduct in Hanwell. By then we realised the true mystery we uncovered that morning - the mystery of our fellow GoodGymers. Today's walk allowed us to chat and get to know each other better, which was especially helpful to the people new to GoodGym or new to the area, like Nishy and Penny. We split by The Viaduct pub, with some of us going in to continue unveiling each other's stories, and others heading out for lunch and missions in the afternoon.
