Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Benjamin Annear
So after an epic litter pick around Llandaff North it was time to run to Maes Y Coed.
The way there was an epic adventure. Unfortunately Aura and Nicola decided not to join us on this group run but having them for the 1st run of the day was a pleasure. The biggest struggle of the run to the second task wasn't the run at all... it was the weather! It was raining HEAVILY.
Aside from the weather the two other aspects of the run there to report on were 'stand up to Ben!' and 'Ben falls down'. The first involved some runners waiting at the traffic lights and when Ben suggested an alternative which involved continuous running without waiting at traffic lights, this decision wasn't the popular choice... Stand up to Ben gate involves sprint drills and press ups - Risk it at your own will! :) After running for 5 minutes more Ben fell down... literally, tripping over a electrical metal drain cover (if there is such a thing). "I'm fine, I'm fine!"... Ben got up and continued leading... Well done Punslinger!
We're here!
We had arrived at Maes Y Coed Community Centre, and with a big smile on his face, Darren was there to greet us! Darren congratulated us on our enthusiasm and strength of character to run in spite of the heavy rain. He told us about the incredible work they do at Maes Y Coed and that they are all volunteers, using their own time to provide a service to the community. They opened Christmas day and played host to a christmas dinner and gave presents to people who would otherwise spend it alone.
I've heard your strong... The task that I need your help with is...
Darren had heard about our incredible strength. He challenged us to build two plantation beds in the time we were there for (35 minutes). Not to be deterred by a challenge we got straight to it. In pairs we began moving large planks of wood across to the gardens of the community centre. The runners went marching two by two hurrah!
In the 35 minutes spent there runners managed to build three plantation beds!
Thank you for all of your hard work... Without your help it would have taken us all day.
Darren was very appreciative of our help! He got in bed with us... one of the planation beds we made... and smiled with us for a group photo.
Don't forget to sign up to our next group run. Click here to sing up!
