Report written by Tabitha Skinner
Six goodgym runners met for the second group run of 2021. After a small warm up and a big hello to CJ from Camden, we ran a speedy 2 km to Brent Mencap where Ian greeted us with his task list.
We have helped Mencap many times over the years and the garden is a great community space that is looking the best I have ever seen it ... other than a half finished path and some old doors that needed a lick of paint ....and thats why we were there !
With not much time to spare, he explained what was needed to help finish off their garden and we set to work.
CJ and Helen had the fiddly but very important task of laying down weed membrane to separate the soil from the gravel path that was being laid. Pete then brought the gravel wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow to the path and added the gravel ...getting through a whole ton of it !!! I raked it out to ensure it was even and flat. Sabina and Samina had the tricky job of deciding which colour to paint some doors, and then started painting . Once the weed membrane was down Helen joined them so we brightened up three doors in total .
Ian was grateful for the help and now the garden is ready for WELLesden day, we are all invited and further info is linked here
After completing the jobs and tidying up Ian showed us the pumpkins and cucumbers that were growing and gave us a deliciously sweet tomato to try. Then we ran off back to the Queensbury for a cool down stretch and a cooling drink Great to have everyone back and looking forward to next week !
