Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Debs Sharpe
In 2017 a unit of runners from York were compelled to do good deeds by the great force of GoodGym. These men and women promptly escaped from the Priory Street centre to community projects around York. Today, still doing good throughout the city they thrive as soldiers of good. If you have a problem, if noone else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can enlist ... The GG team
And that's just what Mr T did.
3 of our crack team arrived at our destination only to hear that Georgie was stuck at work awaiting the AA team to fix her car. We hope you made it home eventually! We were greeted by a neat array of tools lined up by the gate, and a cheery wave through the window from Mr T who came out to show us what needed doing. We had been warned it was a big job with knee high grass but fortunately the reality wasn't that bad and easily tackle-able by our team.
We're not skilled but we are enthusiastic!
We set to with weeding the two beds and the path, and Mr T stayed outside for a chat. Debs soon discovered they shared a passion for steam trains although apparently this was news to Leanne. "Oh so that's why you did Race the Train! I did think it was quite a hard core race for someone who..." The sentence remained unfinished, but yes, it was definitely all about the trains.
Lindsay ploughed on through the weeds whilst Leanne decided to attack the buddleia to give better access to her bed. "You can't kill it, you'll be fine" was the sage advice of our resident buddleia expert Debs, and lo and behold more patio and many pots rapidly emerged from underneath the growth.
Being unable to put it off any longer, it was time for Debs to turn her attentions to the lawn mower. She professed no expertise in the art of mowing (and didn't admit that her own lawn is actually long than Mr T's currently...), but it was a simple mower and it wasn't long before neat (ish) stripes began to appear. Mr T helped by making sure himself and the cable were safely out of the way of the mower, but as this was Debs's first mission she was extra keen to do a good job.
If I mow someone down on my first mission they probably won't let me come back...
With the green bin full of weeds from Lindsay, and buddleia from Leanne, there wasn't much space for the many hoppers of grass cuttings ("about a million", Mr T), but we managed to squash it all in. On the dot of the hour we were all done, and the last sneaky brambles and stray weeds were dealt with. Everything was returned to Mr T's very neat shed, and he bemoaned the lack of a set of boules to play on his new lawn.
It looks the best it's ever done. Professional.
High praise indeed, although we're not sure we'd go quite that far... A good job nonetheless, and it was lovely to leave another happy customer.
(Credit for all A team-related-genius goes to Leanne.)

Loving the ATeam related puns, but more than that, the dedication and smiles! Also, well done on your first mission, Debs!
