Paul good things come to those that wait
This evening we celebrated Paul50th good deed. Massive kudos to Paul for all the time, energy, commitment. goodwill and humour that he brings to each and every run and task. GoodGym Worthing is a better place with you as a member Paul. It was also great to see you raising that 50 glass tonight:)
We also welcomed Duncan , Barbara ,Jay, Belinda together with Gill, Anne ,John at the task and Nick who joined us a little later. Extra special mention to Belinda who completed and conquered the hills at her first ever race at the Canterbury 10 mile run yesterday. Massive kudos to you B! Let the medal collection commence!
I'm delighted to report that we have already reached our 600km January target in Worthing but its going to be a close run thing to reach our 60 task target. After tonight we will have reached 50 . With 6 people booked into our extra task on Wednesday its looking like we may be 4 deeds short. If you could possibly spare 30 minutes of your time at 6.30 pm this Wednesday or know of anyone that could it would be fantastic to achieve this milestone.
I'm a little chilli
After the promise of an inside cooking task at St Clares community hub in readiness for the Turning Tides sleep out this Saturday it was disappointing but understandable that this task had to be rearranged due the the centre having to be turned into a homeless refuge due to the cold weather.
Thanks to Gill's idea we had an alternative task immediately lined up. This was a garden tidy up at Delaney House ,The Recovery Project for those suffering from drugs and alcohol abuse situated in Selden Road.
With 2 groups setting on the warm up the front runners headed off along the prom and around the pier whilst the walkers did a similar but slightly shorter route. We all convened at the task where Gill was waiting with a selection of tools all lined up ready for us.
With the coldness seeping into bones the team immediately set about leaf and rubbish clearing, weeding and pruning. 30 short minutes later we had filled 5 bags of blue rubbish ready for our amazing Adur Worthing refuse team to clear in the morning.
Sprints of Darkness
After saying thank you and goodbye to Barbara and Gill the group set off east along the seafront towards Brooklands. With one group adopting a power walking style the other set off on a series of lamp post sprints on the outward journey followed by a challenging crocodile format on the way back. Everyone seemed to find this enjoyably challenging!
Miraculously the 2 groups finished at Splashpoint LC at the same time. After stretches and chat we parted company with a promise to reconvene either Wednesday at Windsor Lawns, Friday for drinks at the Old Bike Shed from 7:30pm onwards, parkrun Saturday or GG next Monday. What a choice !
Have a great week everyone :)
