Report written by York runner
Runners turned up from all directions to clear a very root-filled raised bed in Corlett Court
In amongst those runners was new runner Vicky, who had joined the (very unofficial) GoodGym Cycle Club crew for ride, transitioned into run gear and joined the madness. I say madness because Digby the dog decided to come on this community mission and has insisted on fartlek training on the way there, chucking in occasional sprints without any warning.
Our original plan had been to clear three raised beds, but I had seriously under-estimated the size and amount of work involved, so our new plan was to fully clear just one.
The bed was covered in a carpet of weeds and ivy, and some kind of awful plant with roots everywhere! Interspersed in the weed mayhem were various herbs, which were to try and keep. There was sage, rosemary, thyme and even a bay tree.
Ste and Lindsay rolled up a huge rug of weeds and found themselves desperately trying to squeeze it into bin bags whilst nearly everyone else was picking away trying to ensure all those pesky little roots were up. There was a brief moment where the sky opened and a few runners took cover in a little doorway, but luckily that didn't last for long enough to scupper our progress.
Some of our group will be heading back to Corlett Court on Monday's (longer) run to tackle another one of the raised beds, so get signed up if you fancy getting involved.
I'll leave you with news that Digby ran me right into a bush on the way home. Lovely.
