Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Angela Isherwood
A muggy Wednesday evening and Steven had made the best choice of his life by visiting Colchester. Steven is the Goodgym Trainer for Norwich, which is launching on 26th June, and he graced us with his presence to complete his Goodgym training. This meant I had a night off (well, kind of). It was nice to see Fay, Emily and Ian back, who all seemed to have taken a holiday the week after the Who Will Care Awards Evening, so this was our first time of seeing them. Some wonder if they all went away together without us...
Tonight's task was a very glamorous litter pick. Steven gave us all a warm up which left the runners asking me back, and then Tommy lead the way to the task. But, we all know what Tommy is like with directions, so we did have to rely on my Geography to get us there.
When we got there, we met another Steve who showed us what needed to be done and warned us about the hazards. There was a rather large pile of cider bottles beneath the overpass, but most runners got to work on rather less obviously messy areas. So, Tommy got stuck right in. Some sections were even out of his reach, and we got super flexible Emily to take care of those.
Eventually the area where this homeless man had been living was completely clear, although I couldn't convince anyone to make his bed for him.
Task complete and it had made a massive impact in a short time. Steve was really happy, and we had collected 7 full bin bags of rubbish.
We made our way to our track by the Range and did a timed 400m. Tommy wanted to do a second one to beat his time, which he did, whilst the rest of us had some more recovery. We then made our way to the outdoor gym opposite leisureworld for some partner strength work before calling it a night and making our separate ways.
Thank you to Steven for leading the run, it was really nice to have a break, especially as it was my 50th good deed with Goodgym! I know Norwich will be really successful with you as their trainer.
