What a great day helping Paces with their fundraising and raising their profile at a BubbleRush 5k event.
Who would have thought marshalling, setting up and grabbing a sneaky opportunity to run through bubbles and foam could be so much fun.
Paces is "Sheffield's best kept secret" a lovely charity supporting families, children and adults with neurological conditions offering conductive education programmes to transform lives.
Hopefully we will be to get involved with more meaningful community missions and missions.
Paces is a specialist centre, school and charity all rolled into one! We support children and adults living with neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, MS, Parkinson’s and brain injury from all around our region. At Paces, we believe that everyone has the right to achieve their true potential; we believe in ability, not disability! At Paces, through a method of support called Conductive Education we teach our children life-changing skills such as sitting, standing, walking, speaking, communication and self-care all in an environment they can have fun, develop friendships, and feel like they belong. We offer a special needs curriculum for 3-18 years old’s as we do not believe that a child’s education should suffer due to their disability. This means that if we start supporting a child from three years old we could be part of their support network throughout their whole life, as once they have moved from education they can join our adult service and reap the benefits of this programme. Paces has been providing exceptional, specialist support for adults with neurological movement disorders for over 22 years. This helps them to live active, enabled, meaningful and productive lives. Our highly specialised Conductive Education approach allows us to raise the expectations and achievements of these individuals beyond what they, or others, may have believed was possible. We have a unique Adult Services which is the only day care centre in the UK to offer a Conductive Education Programme for the adults we support. We also deliver an Adult Sessional Programme, where we support those living with the effects of a Stroke, MS, Parkinson’s and Brain Injury. In these sessions, where we re-teach the skills which have been lost due to their illness. Previously, our Adults Services were based at Paces Campus in High Green, but thanks to our amazing supporters, we were able to move to Smithy Wood earlier this year. This has allowed us to care for even more adults and continue to grow the charity support. Currently, our school is still based at High Green, North Sheffield, but our fundraising journey continues to enable us to move our children into a new and improved facility which will allow us to support three times as many families as we currently do. The School’s new home will be at Thorncliffe Hall, less than one mile from the current site, and less than two miles from Smithy Wood which will be the new home for Paces Living, the charity’s adult services provision, and the charity’s operations team. www.pacessheffield.org.uk/thorncliffe
