10 Goodgymers collect litter for Rivercare

As is customary on the last Wednesday of the month, we had our regular litter pick for Rivercare. And, as it was DAYLIGHT when we started, we could actually see the litter to pick!

We ran to the south side of the river between middle mill weir and north station approach road, and litter picked there before crossing the bridge to the north side and litter picking there and back to the weir. Not everyone knew their north and south, so they were glad to have a geography graduate leading the group to teach them!

As we made our way back, the light started drawing in, but we also came across the neighbouring Rivercare group, the canoe club, as they were having their first canoe out of the season.

As we were making our way back, David spotted a bit of litter on the other side of the fence that was too large to pull through a fence hole, so David, Angela and Chris engaged in a Crystal Maze style challenge, where they used their litter pickers together to carry the litter over the fence.

We were a bit disappointed as it had been slim pickings, with rather a lot of cigarette butts, and nothing more exciting than some chips, but just as we were turning the corner into Leisure World, Tav appears with a saucepan!

The Saucepan was definitely our best find of the evening. We're just wondering if we'll ever top the night where we found all those bike parts!

Before going onto our Social, organised by Emily, we learnt about some extra runs over the Easter Weekend. They are both a great opportunity to get more people involved in Goodgym Colchester, who might otherwise not have the chance to come, either because they can't make 6:45pm on a Wednesday, or because they are beginner runners. Both of these runs start at a different location very close to the task, and as such, they are ideal for beginners. There's one on Easter Saturday, and one on Easter Monday. Make sure you sign up.
