Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
A warm Tuesday evening saw the Bristol posse of Good Gym pelting south of the river to an Outdoor Activity Hub, a great introduction for 3 brand new members, and an easy run for us all.
Tomas and Ursula at the Activity Hub gave us two very different tasks to do; create a boccia court by weeding, raking, and generally tarting up an area of unused land, or get down and dirty with the pickaxe/spade/fork combo to dig up some buddleia stumps.
It’s a good job that it was an easy run to the site, we had a lot of energy to bring to these tasks, so we put 40 minutes on the clock to see what could be done.
It soon became clear who were the more aggressive Good Gymers, and who were more precise and methodical – the pickaxe was wielded with much aplomb and a few drops of sweat, and the offending stumps were soon obliterated. Over in the calmer area, the boccia court swiftly went from a patch of weeds and rubble to a beautiful smooth rectangle, surrounded by discarded bricks. Even the finest player would be happy to toss a few balls upon this lovely court.
This court cried out to be tested, so we made boccia balls out of our gardening gloves and enjoyed a swift round. As we ran back, we encountered another running club out on the pavement – but I suspect that they’d not been building a playground for elderly folk (they were too clean!).
We finished at College Green for a game of leg tag, squats, jump squats, press ups and planks, then lay in the sun and had a lovely stretch. Good work, Good Gym Bristol! Come back soon for more!
