Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Madhan
Kathy, from LAGER Can, handed over the litter pickers and the bin bags and asked me, if there was anyone else joining today. I was expecting a new GoodGymer who wanted to get a taste of how GoodGym works. So I collected another litter picker and waited for the person to arrive. 6 more local volunteers joined us today.
As it was nearing 10 am, I messaged the new GoodGymer on WhatsApp, to check if they got lost somewhere. I sent the live location and a few minutes later the new GoodGymer, catching their breath, got down from their bike as it was uphill from their home.
Some of Ealing GoodGymers might have seen this person last Tuesday, as she was the one who took the photo below
Welcome to GoodGym, Emmanuella
It was her first GoodGym mission. I was talking to her about GoodGym the other day when we were doing the Cultivate task at Acton. She wanted to try a taster session and signed up for this one. I was happy I managed to get someone onboard GoodGym and to be part of their first GoodGym session.
Emmanuela was amazed by my litter-finding capability between the bushes. But by the end of the mission, she became a pro at finding litter. We walked into the grove farm and to the meadow and were mostly collecting beer cans and Coke cans on the way. She couldn't believe the amount of cans we are picking.
She was picking up a burger king soft drinks cup, which we thought was filled with mud from the rains recently, and emptied that. The consistency doesn't look muddy.
Do you think it is poo? It smells poo, IT IS POO - Emmanuella
The poo spilled on her gloves and on top of the bag. Not a great first-time experience for someone who wanted a taster session. Emmanuella was unfazed by that and continued. We found some women's shoes and party wear which looked pretty good. It was too good to be thrown into bins. So Emmanuella collected them and planned to give them to charity later.
As the poo smell started filling the air around us, we decided to dump it sooner. I put another bag around it to reduce the smell for some time.
Someone carefully thought and took time to poo inside a cup - Emmanuella
Not the kind of refill I was expecting in a refill cup. As it was nearing the 90 minutes we left our bin bags with other bags. All the other volunteers have left by this point. So we handed over the gloves and litter pickers to Kathy and called it a day.
Well, that's the report for this Saturday. For the next Saturday, you don't need to pick up the litter outside, instead, you can paint the walls inside. Join us for the painting task near Ealing Broadway
