Today two Goodgymers visited the Vauxhall Gardens Community Centre (VGCC) to help prepare and stock items for their weekly Friday foodbank

After meeting Sophya, who was the main contact at the centre I made my way down to the cafe area where I met VGCC volunteer Melvin and Goodgymer Chas who attended her first Goodgym deed,

While we waited for the delivery from the Felix Project, Chas and I helped with laying out the eggs, bagging pieces of bread and bagels which the centre receives from Borough Market and a large number of doughnuts.

When the delivery of the rest of the items arrived, the three of us unloaded the items from the van. A wide range of items were received including cereal, fries, protein bars and pumpkins (maybe Halloween leftovers).

We completed the task in just under two hours, ready for the foodbank to open on Friday.

Vauxhall Foodbank
Our oldest and most popular task!

Vauxhall Foodbank provide short term food support to families and individuals in crisis. We help them out by sorting food collected from local supermarkets into categories and making sure it is correctly weighed. This task is the dream for all lovers of neatness and order. Feel the calm wash over you as all the tins get sorted and put away. The work we do here would take the voluntary staff hours to do by themselves. We get everything bang tidy in 20 mintes.
