Report written by Anji Andrews (she/her)
I don't really know why but I woke up really stressed about this task yesterday and as always it all went swimmingly with a brilliant group getting stuck in to make their Monday amazing.
We warmed up with a game of Mexican Wave "Copy Cats" and caught up on some good things from the weekend including an Urban Green community mission and a mission today in which Richard cleared a path, cut back some weeds and earned himself a chocolate biscuit. Score!
Tonight we were leafleting to spread the work of ... us! This was part two of a leaflet drive to get more members at GoodGym Newcastle at a time when students are properly settling into our city. Paul was leading the runners while I led the walking group with only a slight bit of guess work with the map. Richard, Charlotte and I were also met by a girl who needed some buddies to walk with after being approached and followed by a weird man.
NB: if you yourself are a weird man reading this, please don't do this.
With what felt like an extra good deed, we walked the girl home safely before heading on to the task. Not all heroes wear capes.
The running group had already made a start on two streets by the time we met up and in no time almost 300 GoodGym postcards were through the doors of 300 Heaton houses. We met back up after just 30 minutes and finished off with a relay run to complete the session strong.
We have a big painting task this Saturday at Stepney Bank Stables where we will be from 10am until 1:30pm. Come and stay as long as you fancy. If you can't make it to that, join in with us again next Monday when we will be helping out at Recyke Y Bike.
