The final installment of our leafleting task for Shieldfield Art Works took place on the coldest Monday night for many a month.
GoodGym Newcastle welcomed Douglas for the first time. More senior leaflet deliverers Scott and Richard were encouraged to move a bit faster than usual due to Douglas' energetic enthusiasm. Please come back and see us again soon Douglas, hopefully in a shiny, new GoodGym red t-shirt.
The pile of leaflets, which a couple of weeks ago was bigger than anything seen at GoodGym Newcastle before, finally disappeared completely. Extra kudos to Scott for wandering around in the cold past our usual finish time to get the final leaflets delivered. I think we may have set a new record tonight for the most leaflets delivered per person per hour!
There are three community missions coming up before next Monday, as we clear leaves in Gateshead, assist Newcastle Parks and volunteer at junior parkrun. Please check out the session listings and join us at one or more of those if you can.

On a damp Monday evening, four GoodGymers headed out from Stepney Bank Stables to deliver leaflets for Shieldfield Art Works. The piles of leaflets had significantly shrunk since last week, but there were still quite a few left. After covering all of Shieldfield last week, the terraced streets of Sandyford and Heaton made an appealing target to get lots of leaflets delivered quickly. It was certainly a successful evening, with the added bonus that the rain largely stayed away.
Welcome to Chris on your first good deed and we hope to see you back again soon. Seasoned leaflet deliverers Aimee, Scott and Richard were delighted to see a new face.
Normally that would be the end of the report, but near the Tyne Bridge I stumbled upon a young lady laying face down on the pavement and pouring with blood from several facial wounds. She very likely had a broken nose as well, being tended to by her friend and a passer by on a bike when I got there. The GoodGym first aid kit got a rare use; fortunately I had bandages to stem the bleeding, antiseptic wipes to clean the wounds and a foil blanket to keep the young lady warm. Her companion was insistent that she didn't need an ambulance as she'd be furious, but she was very incoherent due to her head injuries. So after making sure the young lady was breathing and no longer bleeding, I called 999 and explained the situation. Hopefully there was a positive outcome for her.

Avid readers of GoodGym Newcastle reports will know that we've been on a huge mission this week to deliver leaflets for Shieldfield Art Works (SAW) promoting their music event. People of Shieldfield have worked together to create songs and music reflecting their lives and neighbourhood and the first performance is on Friday! After a group run on Monday and solo excursions during the week, today was a Community Mission. Four of us covered quite a few streets and delivered another few hundred leaflets. The fifth and final session is another group run on Monday - check out the listing and sign up to join a final push to get all the leaflets out!

Three GoodGymers headed out from Stepney Bank Stables armed with lots of leaflets from Shieldfield Art Works. There were a pair of leaflets, both of them to be placed in each letterbox.
Shieldfield is not the simplest area of Newcastle in which to deliver leaflets. There are inaccessible blocks of flats, some unusual and inconsistent street layouts and some houses with very long garden paths. Despite the challenges, we made good progress as the evening went on, making a big dent in the two piles of leaflets.
There are a lot more leaflets that still need delivering, so please look out for some community missions the rest of this week. We'll be back next Monday to finish the job.

There was lots going on at GoodGym Newcastle tonight. Former Area Activator Anji made a special guest appearance, only her third time returning since having screws inserted in her wrist after an accident. Possibly not ideal to be scraping paint off walls, but Anji scraped as much off as anyone else. Welcome back!
We also welcomed first time GoodGymer and student Muhannad. Not all of our tasks are quite so dusty. We hope to you again soon!
We also had a belated celebration of Aimee's 400th good deed, which involved meeting and stroking Ginny the horse. 400 good deeds is an awful lot of volunteering, with a lot of good done for the local community.
Before all of this, we went for a short run to show our support for This Girl Can's Let's Lift the Curfew campaign. Let's make sure that Newcastle is a safe place for women and girls to exercise outdoors all year round.
Next up for GoodGym Newcastle is a gardening task with Newcastle Parks on Saturday in Iris Brickfield Park. Please come and join us if you can!
