Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
Last night we found that good things come in small packages as five of us met to help create a special planter for an upcoming community Jubilee event in Clapham Junction.
We started off with a run down of the weekend, which included Lorna smashing the Hackney half and Catherine doing a parkrun in Milan, before warming up. The theme for the nearby flower show this year is British icons, so appropriately, we went round the group naming them. Suggestions included the most British of icons, the Queen herself, David Attenborough, Cilla Black and, erm, Piers Morgan. As promised, I'm naming no names!
Just a short run down to Clapham Junction later and we arrived at the planter to start digging out the shrubs, clearing the area and turning over the soil. Watched by many passers by, some of whom were 'gently persuaded' to help out by Hadas, we made good progress. Jordan's epic battle against one of the more established shrubs soon became everybody's focus and we all lent a hand and finally managed to get the thing out! Great work.
Fueled by the watermelon Hadas treated us to while we worked we finally managed to clear most of the planter ready for all the beautiful flowers that are shortly to go in. There's still a big job to do though! So on Saturday there will be a community mission helping to shift and spread the compost over the bed. There will be five tonnes of it, so lets get as many people involved as we can. You can sign up to help right here.
After a quick tour of the new food area and a little bit of chocolate, we soon set off back to base where we found out that it was Catherine's 100 good deeds - what an absolute GoodGym hero! Sophie quickly came up with a special song which I think we now have to adopt for all future milestones...
Next Monday we're going to have a special Jubilee themed session followed by a social where we'll find somewhere nice to have drinks, food and to celebrate CATHERINE'S 100 GOOD DEEDS! . There's so much to look forward to I hope to see as many as possible as you there!
