After a cold stacking and crating last time, I was prepared for today's task. And the slow iPad at the front desk was super fast this time. So signing in went swiftly. This time the task was not in the colder section but rather in a comfy area of the warehouse.

How strong are your fingers?

The first task was to open different varieties of protein bars, biscuits, and popcorn from a variety of cardboard boxes and fill the crates with a mix of everything. It was more challenging to open the cardboard boxes as they seemed super strong and the tapes are not that easy to remove. There was a veteran who seems to have found the knack of opening the boxes, he did it so with ease. It took me around the 20s on average to open each box. It's a real workout for the fingers and the hand even though I was given a cutter to open them.

How strong are your shoulders?

The next task is similar but this time I need to deal with cans of tinned chickpeas, coconut milk, luxury brand espresso beans, and a few more groceries. The cardboard boxes are a bit heavier as each box weighed around 8kg and was super thick as well. It needs to deal with mayo bottles and vinegar which required extra care when filling the crate. I was told to fill the crate with 6 cans of chickpeas, 2 cans of pears, 6 bottles of mayo, and 2 cans of coconut milk. As expected I mixed up and did 6 cans of pears and 2 bottles of mayo. After having a sheepish smile, I redid the five crates at a faster pace the second time.

Almond croissants and strawberries anyone?

Then I took a tea break and a bag of pastries, some pancakes, and a box of strawberries were waiting for me in the pantry. I made myself tea and stuffed myself with food to fill the lost energy.

Warehouse knowledge

Pallet Jack Drifting

As my warehouse vocabulary is on the lowest low, I referred to everything as "thing" instead. My questions were, How do I move that thing? Do I need this thing to get that thing?

Words I learned today. Pallets and Pallet trucks.

Moving pallets loaded with crates using the pallet trucks was the most fun I had on today's task. I push them one way and they go another way. Managed to tame the beast by the end of the day.

People

As last time, the place was filled with nice people. Assistant warehouse manager Ruby elevated our energy by playing dope hits of the 90s and 80s on a boom speaker throughout our task.

When I worked at a warehouse, we used to call the pallet-moving thing a "pump truck". Good to know what wording is trending now 😁

I think everyone in the warehouse used different word. I couldn't catch many as even the word pallet was new to me 😅
