Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)
On a sunny Sunday morning, Daryl, Emily, Gemma, Jenny, Lindy and Sam met up Bex for our first Surrey Docks Farm session of 2023!
Bex had a variety of tasks for us, but the first one is our favourite - sweeping the goats courtyard, which looked like it had been done earlier...but the goats are 💩 constantly, so we had half a barrels worth.
For the gardening task, we split the team into two: Emily, Lindy and Sam spent the majority of the time emptying a raised bed that had crumbly, but hard soil. They took it in turns to fork and shovel the soil out into two tonne bags. Finally, they managed to transport four barrows worth of mulch to put down on the Farm allotment to deter weeds from growing.
Daryl, Gemma and Jenny had to fill barrows worth of topsoil into a tonne back before going outside of the Farm to tackle the remaining brambles and hops that had been growing wildly, but had since died.
The second group stayed on to feed the animals and get a tour of the Farm whilst the first group had to head off for other commitments.
We're back at the Farm next weekend to finish off some tasks and take on new ones! ☺️
Surrey Docks Farm is run by a charity and provides education for school children, young people and adults with learning difficulties. Our work helps with essential maintenance and helps them keep the farm operating.
