Ferreting-Around

Sunday 30th March

Written by Laura Grant

Itโ€™s springtime on the farm and that means thereโ€™s a lot to do, as ever! 3 Good Gymmers and Farm Manager, Gemma, started off by mucking out the sheep pen. This is home to 9 very pregnant ewes. Once we had cleaned their living quarters, we took the manure and dirty hay round to the compost where it will decay before being bagged up and sold in the Farm Shop. Then we just had time to de-weed one of the paths before taking the ferrets out for their daily exercise. This was a lot of fun as they are very inquisitive creatures. We will be back in 2 weeks and hope to see lots of newborn lambs!

Paving the way at the farm

Sunday 2nd March

Written by Southwark runner

Seven of us really hit the "gym" in "goodgym" this morning, helping Pat on the farm.

We hauled around some sleepers to tidy up, we filled in a planter with compost and soil, and we transported a very large number of heavy paving slabs from behind the duck pond to next to the muck heap.

We definitely got our weightlifting and steps workout! We were rewarded with a meet and greet with some of the farm residents. First, Oreo and Penguin the calves, who took a particular shine to Gail's shoes! Then we visited the 3 week old lambs, and finished off feeding the pregnant goats.

Welcome to Kavita and Peining, for their first GoodGym session, and we hope to see you all again soon.

Heavy Lifting

Sunday 23rd February

Written by Laura Grant

On a sunny February morning, 6 Good Gymmers arrived at the Farm. After a quick briefing and check on the newly born lambs, we set to work moving some large wooden planks from one end of the farm to the other to help with the construction of the new sleepers. This was a strong upper body workout and we tested a full range of lift and carry techniques, including whether use of a wheelbarrow was helpful or not? After about an hour of strong physical effort, we were rewarded with time spent feeding the pigs, calves and goats. It was a great work out. Special mention to Matthew for completing his first Good Gym mission! We will be back next weekend to carry on the mission.

The right side of the bed

Sunday 9th February

Written by Southwark runner

Today 5 Goodgymmers went to Surrey Docks Farm to help Pat.

Our task today was to move soil out of two of the allotment beds so that they could be rebuilt. It was grueling work but we all got stuck in and we made a big difference. Great teamwork! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฅฐ

Extra special mentions to first-timers Sreyans and Yuxi. Thank you for coming and we hppe to see you again soon! ๐Ÿ’›

MOOving soil

Sunday 26th January

Written by Southwark runner

Yesterday, 5 Goodgymmers went to help Pat at Surrey Docks Farm. As we trickled in (first Oliver, then Matilde, Vic and Zeina) she quickly set us to work.

We split into two groups since there were two trenches the needed to be worked on. Firstly we had to make them deeper, before filling them in with layers of manure, compost and soil.

It started to rain just as we were finishing up. Even though it was cold and wet, we stayed to visit the cows (Penguin and Oreo) and feed the sheep.
