Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Anita (she/her)
Back at The Three Pigeons Plot, seven GoodGym heroes enjoyed an unexpectedly beautiful sunny day (at the time, no sign of the threatened Storm Ciara) and continued with the weeding and planting.
The word Paradise comes from the from the word paridaeza, referring to the geometric, enclosed walled gardens of ancient Persia. It is a combination of pairi (around) and daeza (wall). In the first translation of the Old Testament the word parades was used for a garden and the word ‘paradise’ is therefore associated with The Garden of Eden. As The Three Pigeons Plot is contained within it’s own low wall, we can justifiably call it paradise and, at a stretch, we might claim we were ‘weeding Eden’.
Naomi, Harry, Jack, Salwa, JP, Adam and Anita continued with work to clear the central area of the plot where we will be erecting an insect hotel which will be surrounded by Myrtles, dwarf Acers and dwarf Buddleia. We were also able to complete further plantings from Petersham Nurseries generous donation, incorporating the following into the plot: 4 Chelone Obliqua 3 Nepeta Grand Summer Magic 4 Heuchera Astibe Snowsprite 4 Nemesia Sugar Almond 4 Phlox purple bicolour 1 Hydrangea limelight 7 Strawberry Alice 2 Japanese Anemone whirlwind
There are still more Petersham Nurseries plants to go in and the next Three Pigeons Plot Community Mission is scheduled for Saturday 29 February.
