8 enthusiastic GGers arrived at West Bank Park on a sunny Wednesday to help Kristin with creating a new wildflower area.

We split into teams with Babs and David tasked with putting back pieces of membrane to cover what will become a wildflower area. Some had holes or slits in and it was a jigsaw puzzle-type scenario as they tried to fathom which piece went where. After a bit of help from Kristina they had most of the area covered and eagerly awaited the barrows of compost from the rest of the team, whilst keeping the membrane held down with various stones and rocks as the wind was trying to blow it all out of position.

Graham, Paul, Cara, Laura, Louise and Amy were tasked with finding and extracting compost from the various compost bins around WBP. Our first attempt was largely unsuccessful - mainly finding dried leaves and not much usable compost. We then split again in search of more compost! It was a gruelling task of essentially mining for compost, then running with wheelbarrows back to Babs and David.

Kristina really wanted an 8 inch depth of compost on top of the membrane but we quickly realised that as the compost was coming from some distance away (and it was difficult to dig out) that we would be doing well just to get all the membrane covered. After an hour's work it was achieved - even if not quite the depth required
