Tuesday 5th March
Report written by Dani CB (she/her)
FoodCycle on Tuesday was attended by a record breaking 53 guests which is the most Luton has ever catered for! On the cooking team tonight we had Tigger, Mayara, Martin and Gill. The cooking Team were led by Gill with Jordi shadowing her as it was her first time as the official project leader, and they all did a marvelous job. Transforming the donated food in to a wonderful starter of mixed salad, falafel and boiled egg wraps. A main course of Sweet and Sour stir fry vegetables with mushroom rice, and a popular pudding of cake with fruit salad. On the hosting side was Dani working with project leader Craig and a team of volunteers, some familiar and some who were brand new! There were so many guest who were latecomers this evening that it was very difficult to keep track of numbers and who was still waiting for what, but luckily the cooking team were very patient with us and we worked together to make sure everything was served up. It was so busy that there were no leftovers, and Martin did some quick thinking and whipped up some Smash and cooked some of the tinned vegetables that we have in our supply shelves so that nobody went hungry, and there was something for everyone. Great job team!
FoodCycle use food that would otherwise go to waste and put on a free social dinner for anyone who wants to come along, whether hungry or lonely, they welcome everyone to come for dinner and meet other people
