Happy pancake day GG! To mark the occasion we started off our group run with a question - what is the best topping? To our surprise lemon and sugar didn't wipe the board, but got a couple of honourable mentions, along with nutella, cheese and even a rogue vote for blueberry! How delicious. It was also fabulous to have Scarlett along for her very session, give her a big GG cheer!
With our minds full of fluffy pancake goodness we set off for Doddington Roof Garden, a community space for local people to use to connect with nature. We soon met up with Malissa, lead gardener, who gave us loads of jobs to do. The first was to unload and prep a load of donated saplings which will be planted eventually to create a lovely wild, natural fence along the top of the garden. Eventually there will be a pathway of hawthorn, hazel and other indigenous trees from the garden right over to Battersea Park to link the two green spaces. Such a lovely idea, pity about the thorns! A bit painful but it's all for a very good cause.
There was also a lot of digging and shifting of compost to be done, plus about 35 watering cans to be filled - which the older volunteers who come in the day will be really pleased to see!
After a great, productive session we headed down to the square to do our fitness session- how're those legs feeling today everyone? It was a bit of a meaty session, with everybody trying to beat their team's number of reps for power squats and step up. Great effort!
Next week we're back to Waste Not Want Not to finish off the packing up at this food waste charity so they can have a big refurb and provide even greater services for the local people. You can sign up here. Plus we will be having a repeat visit to the pub quiz for our monthly social, if you want to put your brain to the test then pop your name down here.
