Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Aimee (she/her)
Three GoodGymers helped East End Women foodbank in our weekly Wednesday mission.
As usual we were packing cars with food parcels to be delivered to people in need. We made sure that every delivery driver arriving to collect the food parcels had the right number of bags of food, toiletries and any extras like baby food or pet food. Once we counted out the correct number bags, we helped quickly load their cars. We struggled to find a ‘no hob’ bag but Tom managed to make one up even finding some tinned meat but no pot noodles.
In a quiet period waiting for the last driver to arrive we caught up and had a chat about all our plans covid-19 had affected. We didn’t use any wheelbarrows this week, but Liz did look to be having fun pushing a red cube on wheels around. The hour flew by!
East End Women offers practical courses for women to build confidence and skills around DIY, sewing, pattern cutting and basic trades. We also deliver the Freedom Programme domestic abuse recovery course, helping women to better understand the roots of domestic abuse and build confidence to identify warning signs in the future. In addition to this, East End Women also offer social activities and drop-in sessions for women experiencing isolation to meet one another, make friends and build local networks.
