Report written by Leanne (she/her)
18 runners meet on a cool winter's evening to sort out one of the local footpaths.
One team, including new runner, Katy set to work on edging the path to restore it to its intended width, while a second group were led farther down to saw, lop and shear overhanging branches and bushes.
After making a start on the edging team, I ran farther down the path to see what the other team were, up to. There, I found Paul Kelly boasting about the size of his trunk, and Jo quietly getting on with her 50th good deed. Make sure you send a cheer her way!
A bit farther down, it looked like Nick had had a serious argument with his bush. I found him standing proudly in the entrails, contemplating the final stubborn branch.
I think it needs a Leanne-dangle. (Nick)
Sure enough, it only took a few more strokes of the saw while I was dangling from the branch before we heard the satisfying crack as it gave way.
Right at the bottom of the path, Mitch and Amy T were having a whale of a time destroying their own bush.
I stuck around for tidy up time (throwing cuttings into the undergrowth across the road) with each group as we gradually made our way back to the edging team, just in time to see Debs win the fight against a stubborn root which had grown up between paving stones.
Job done, it would have been rude not to pop to the pub on the other side of the footpath for a refreshing drink!
