Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Aimee Giles
On a windy Saturday morning, nine GoodGym Cardiff runners didn't let Storm Hannah keep them away from helping their community. They ran from all over Cardiff to lend a hand at Coryton Primary School. Many of the runners have run to the school before and were looking forward to getting stuck in and lending a hand. Adam was first on the scene and got straight into clearing earth for new planting beds. Gareth the school caretaker recruited Martin, Dave, and Mat as soon as they arrived to help take down a small stage and some metal fencing. Wendy from the PTA recruited Emma, Mikey, Fiona, Lucy, and Aimee to help clear some plantation beds of soil and then take them apart. Everyone was hard at work, when all of the sudden, Lucy shrieked! She had nearly hit a toad with the shovel. He matched the soil very well and had made a nice home for himself in the plantation bed. Wendy relocated him to a new home in the school's pond. Hopefully he will appreciate the trees that GoodGym helped prepare the area for planting on a previous run to Coryton Primary. After an hour and a half, part of the fence was disassembled, the stage taken down, earth was cleared, and two plantation beds had been disassembled. Everyone was about to run off, but not before replenishing their energy with Wendy's famous flapjack still warm from the oven.
School. We are making an outdoor learning area for junior pupils and a den area for the whole school.
