Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Laura Williams
What's the story?
With council resources a bit scarce, and a lovely large donation of daffodil bulbs from a Meath Gardens resident, Joanna and the Friends of Meath Gardens team and I decided to arrange this spacious, safe activity for our first warm weekend of 2021.
A group of 15 of us met for a brilliant, distanced briefing by the changing rooms, delivered by Burak and Joanna.
The task was a well prepped one indeed: litter bags aplenty, individual tools and bundles of litter pickers meant that we were all independent of one another kit-wise, and so it was with a spring in our step we headed to all four corners of the park (and beyond - Charlotte and Becs made their way right around to the area by the bridge).
Meanwhile, the bulb-planting team of 5 headed out to multiple sites in the park to get the daffs bedded in just in time for a Spring appearance.
It was a very companiable morning - we said hello to faces we hadn't seen for a while, and welcomed first time GoodGymer Maia!
The time flew by and before we knew it it was after 12.30 and we were gathering last bits of rubbish and counting heads as we gathered back at the changing room for some last minute pics.
Well done to everyone - you covered a lot of ground (forgive the pun) and we can't wait to go back.
Talking of which, we'll be heading back for more weekend Meath Gardens activity soon, as The Big Spring Shrub Planting will be happening soon! Keep your eyes peeled for that listing...
In the meantime, enjoy the warmer weather, and take great care.
The Friends of Meath Gardens is a community organisation that is fighting to save, maintain and improve our green spaces. Meath Gardens, formerly Victoria Park Cemetery, is a large green area nestled next to Mile End Park. You can reach it over the footbridge near the Palm Tree and the Mile End Climbing Wall, or from Smart Street.
