Report written by Anita (she/her)
Richmond runners Susan, T, Sam, Naomi, JP, Rain, led by Jack, joined Anita at the Three Pigeons Plot, Buccleuch Gardens, Richmond for a tricep-dip challenge, a ‘trial by midges’ and a manic but highly effective garden blitz and planting session.
The second Monday of the Month is now a regular slot for a GG Richmond’s Group Run. We head out from our meet point by The Tap Tavern towards Buccleuch Gardens on The Thames Path where there are two large flower beds that GG Richmond have planted and now maintain.
Both The Three Pigeons Plot and The Arcade Rockery were looking particularly good tonight, in part due to a fantastic display of daffodils, tulips and hyacinths. Over 1,000 bulbs were allocated to us last year and we planted them out in December 2021, just before Christmas. They were donated through an annual scheme that the London Metropolitan Gardens Association administer ,with bulbs donated by Taylors of Spalding.
Tonight GG Richmond runners plus our Haringey special guest were ‘tip-toeing round the tulips’ at The Three Pigeons Plot to focus on : Weeding out grass and shepherds purse; Planting poppy seeds, Weeding around the steps down to the River Thames; Sweeping up; Planting violas and blue lobelia donated by City Harvest at Acton Park; and finally a group effort to ‘magic-carpet’ all the green waste away to our hidden compost heap at the back of The Arcade Rockery. A massive 'Thank You' to tonight’s run leader Jack, The Tap Tavern and donors City Harvest, Taylors of Spalding and The London Metropolitan Gardens Association.
