Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Kate Haworth
Dave and I were keen to get out of the house and get some exercise (at a minimum distance of 2 metres from anyone else) to help to prepare Mrs S’s downstairs room for the fitting of her hospital bed. The first few minutes were spent searching high and low for some kind of screwdriver or spanner to take the legs off the table as there was no chance of it fitting up the stairs with them on. Kitchen drawers, cupboards, the shed outside... in the end it took a call to Mrs S' care home and a point in the direction of the cupboard under the stairs. A box of spanners was found and the dismantling began. Once the large dining table was rendered legless, we carried it up the steep stairs to the room upstairs and then moved on to bringing the chairs up too. We were happy to chair the task of carrying them upstairs and in no time our mission was complete. All that was left was to quickly roll away the carpet and say farewell to the Child Living Support worker that had shown us into the house. But before we ran on our way again, Dave began to unload a backpack full of essential items that he’d brought with him as a welcome home gift for Mrs S which comprised of loo roll (gold dust to some), hand soap ( becoming more rare everyday), tissues, biscuits and a welcome home card! It was a very thoughtful touch and has inspired me to aim to be as prepared for my next mission!
