On a misty Saturday morning the intrepid members of GoodGym Portsmouth rolled themselves out of bed and down to Southsea Parkrun to celebrate Southsea's 5th and Parkrun's 14th birthdays. After a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday" we were off, heading down the prom in search of the turnaround cone. Once round that we faced the oncoming memory walkers and finally made it back to speaker's corner. Tim was first home and close to his PB, but congratulations are reserved this week to Sam who managed a new PB and Laura who managed a course best!

We then walked back down the course to the Coffee Cup to meet up for the Beach Clean.

No pants this time but we did find a bucket handle, swimming costume/bikini strap, metal fork and later a knife (not from the same set and about 800m away from each other), a trinket box from Prague and what looked to be a diamond at first glance but sadly was a piece of plastic jewelery! Plenty of other bits of plastic were put in the rubbish sacks along with coffee stirrers and some takeaway cups. What we kept finding though was cigarette butts.... loads and loads of them. They camouflage quite well with the pebbles but once you get your eye in you just can't stop finding them.

By 11am the weather had really come in (bit different to our last beach clean) and we were getting quite wet. We retreated back to the Coffee Cup shortly afterwards and warmed up with hot drinks. Our poster for our #runandtalk run on Thursday was proudly displayed on their door :)

There is another beach clean on 3 November which will be on the website as a community mission soon. Hope to see you there... might need the thermals that week!

Hope you've all dried out. Have a great rest of weekend.

Katie
