GoodGym are used to working hard on our monthly visit to our friends the Tree Musketeers, so when we saw nine massive bags of rocks, we knew we were up to the challenge!

The Tree Mukseteers run a tree nursery in Hackney, growing and caring for many of the trees that get planted round the borough. The nursery is expanding, and our job for the morning was to clear nine massive bags of rocks from the new area, to help make space for equiptment storage. The bags had clearly been there for some time, and the rocks were compacted with lots of soil packing them in tight. Some of them had even been rooted to the spot!

In a previous life they had been gabions (those metal cages full of rocks you get at the side of roads sometimes), but our job was to empty them out and transfer them to the other side of the field to build a wall.

We got stuck in, filling barrows of rocks and soil, and the wall slowly grew. By the time we'd emptied all nine bags, the wall was five meters long, and we had made loads of space for the Tree Musketeers to expand! Perfect timing for a cup of tea and a biscuit.

We're at the nursery on the last Saturday of the month, so keep an eye out for future missions.
