Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)
Adam, Michael and Sam met at the Borough Food Co-op to help out with sorting out all the food donations that come from Fareshare on a Wednesday. However, there was a slow start as Fareshare didn't arrived at 14:00 (it came closer to 15:30), so in the meantime, Adam (from the Food Co-op) got us involved in re-organising and stocking up the shelves with plenty of stock they had in the back - tomato passata, pot noodles, energy drinks and more!
By the time, we had taken out all the stock and filled most of the shelves, Adam got us to start making mince pies....but in a different way. With tinfoil containers we filled the base with mincemeat...some were generous than others. With 4 x 5 kilos of mincemeat, we managed to fill at least 75, if not more containers.
Between starting and finishing the mincemeat activity, Adam needed our assistance in getting the Fareshare food delivery in, categorised and stored on a shelf....which was becoming limited. By the time, we left the Food Co-op pantry was full to the max. There was so much excess that Adam insisted on us to take a couple of items as a thank you.
Can't wait to come on Friday!
The food cooperative provides members with low cost food to help reduce food bills and tackle food insecurity. It also reuses surplus food to prevent food being thrown away.
