Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Mridula Iyer
Good morning goodgymmers! Today was another fantastic mission with the lovely Food2U/Age UK team to do a shop for people who were shielding. As a result of poor life decisions I was about 10 minutes late so Mayuko and Richard were already off in the store, winning the imaginary competition I have in my head of who get's the most amount of shopping done! Damn them and their punctuality!
However, I had someone doing some unintentional sabotage in my corner - Caroline from Food2U. She had given Richard and Mayuko a very long list of shopping, so I was able to catch up very quickly. Thanks Caroline (Please note that Caroline is a nice human and played no part in this imaginary competition)!
I was given a list filled with some really awesome fancy items for a Ms A - a list that made me ponder many philosophical scenarios, many of which I have detailed below.
Ms A wanted 2, 250 gm packs of duck. However, Tesco only sold 357 gm packs of duck. In my opinion, duck is to poultry, what people who don't return library books on time are to me - the purest form of evil. I debated getting her just one pack of duck, however she clearly is a fan, so I begrudgingly put both of them in the trolley. Mridula's Moral Conscience - 1, Mridula's evil side - 0.
I find most supermarket's ordering system fairly confusing and I was glad they never got near the dewey decimal system, otherwise I'm pretty sure I would be illiterate. However, today, I realised it's not their fault - it was the shoppers! I got to the cheese section where Ms A had requested the Ossau Iraty Cheese, which confusingly was located on 2 shelves. Just when I was about to throw an internal tantrum about the mass confusion this would cause and citing this as an example of why the entire world was in shambles - I realised some other shopper had placed it on an incorrect shelf. Tesco, I'm sorry! Mridula's Humbling - 1, Mridula's Self Righteous Indignation - 0.
This shop ultimately was very edifying too given that Ms A clearly treated her body like a temple, demanding only Tesco's finest. She really inspired me to think about eating better, or at least I would if cheesy wotsits were not so delicious. Cheesy Wotsits - 1, Mridula's cholesterol levels - 0.
We only did two shops each today as there were an abundance of volunteers. Mayuko joined us again today, but felt guilty about logging this as a Goodgym mission because she had signed up directly with Age UK. That's ok Mayuko - this is the only time cheating is acceptable!
We finished up pretty early, and Richard and I were sent out to get some corrections/replacements to other people's shopping. It was nice to have something regularly in the diary and see each other again. Soon we were done and had a short chat outside about how lucky we all are, and went on home.
Stay Safe Goodgymmers! Thank you for another amazing mission, Food2U.

Thanks Adele! I blame Cheesy wotsits for not resembling priyanka chopra! But totally worth it!
