Laura and myself rolled in for the 2nd shift at Ealing Soup Kitchen after a small walk from our first mission at Hanwell Carnaval. As I already new the premises, guided Laura into the premises and checked our rota for the shift. We were both on service duties. As it was a first time for Laura she was assigned helping in the main area with the games, the clothes and the bags. I went to meet Fay for a handover as she was nearly done with her shift. Task was to takeover and carry on serving either Chicken Curry with rice, salad and nan bread or chickpeas instead of meat. Followed by dessrts : sponge cake or roulade with custard. Not to forget beverages for our guests : tea, coffee, water with orange or blackcurrant. Once meals were served, we started giving out these dishes as takeaway from 2:30pm. Also handed out a variety of sandwiches to take away : choice of cheese, tuna or egg. The minions would of loved the bananas we gave away to our guests. The chicken curry was a success and some guests had seconds plus took some away with them. Angela and the kitchen team did a great dish and was complimented by many guests. Once service was over : the cleaning of the service area and kitchen started. All hands on deck and it was done and dusted in no time...space completely empty and clean. We then helped in the lobby to hoover and clear all the tables and chairs. Looked as if nobody was here and the crowd vanished into space.
Ealing Soup Kitchen is a registered charity set up to help the vulnerable and homeless in the area. Nine local churches support our faith-based Soup Kitchen, which has been running since 1973.
