SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Michal Czekajlo
We arrived at the site of the famous gazeebo to be met by Peter and Florence from York Greenways who had a plethora of tasks for us.
Leanne, Katie, Zinnie and Lucy went on a find and bring woodchip mission, which could be found along the cycle path towards Selby. Equipped with only two wheelbarrows creative GoodGymers quickly found other assets suitable for the task, namely a child's pram frame and a plastic crate on wheels. Using these modern modes of transportation a pile of woodchip soon began to build up at the Hut.
Meanwhile Max and Michal started with moving wooden pallets and levelling the ground for some new play equipment. Applying their DIY skills they soon created a solid and level foundation for what is to become a climbing frame. Woodchip from the pile was raked into place around the climbing frame base making it aesthetically pleasing.
Making the Hut straight was our next task on the list. It was leaning towards the cycle path, so Max and Michal lifted it, holding its roof, while Peter and Florence skilfully pushed four paving slabs underneath to make it stable for years to come. This move also helped to make the Hut door square.
The door now closes properly - Peter
The last task tonight was to create a soft woodchip base for 'where people play'. Equipped with rake and mattock Max and Michal started from removing the grass ready for chippings to go in. After a bit Michal swapped with Zinnie (our new member), as he wanted to do some barrow racing and Zinnie was keen to hack at the grass clumps and show Max how to use mattock properly.
Give Zinnie a big cheer, she will fit right in!
After one hour of reinvigorating the place it was time for a socially distanced photo and cycle, or run home.
