Report written by Ben Parkes
On a spectacularly cold May evening, we all gathered for a brand new task to help a local arts project get off the ground.
Time was against us this evening, so we gathered into two groups. One faster one led by Alex and a more relaxed group with me at the helm to get there slightly later. The faster group speed off into the distance to meet Laura, who was in charge of cleaning a disused car park that was now going to be transformed into a space for the local community to gather together.
So it was brushes out, water on, soapy buckets at the ready for a blast at cleaning everything inside for 45 minutes. Water was going everywhere, but most importantly it was gathering the old dirt and taking it down the drain leaving a sparkly clean floor.
The walls were being transformed as well, with the soapy water leaving no sign of the earlier dirt and mess.
As we gathered round for a quick talk from Laura, I think it's fair to say everyone was really impressed at the transformation of the space in such a short amount of time. Great job team!!
We were running very behind schedule now, as everyone was enjoying the task so much! So it was a quick jog over to weavers fields park, for a quick game of the classic meet and retreat. It's a great fitness session you can play with any friends or family, as the fast and not so fast people can all play together.. give it a go the next time you're in the park with your friends.
So it's a goodbye from me, in terms of running the area, but I'm sure I'll be back at various points over the next few weeks to help Alex out. Give him lots of support, as I know you will. I'm sure he'll do great with lots of interesting and diverse tasks for everyone to complete each week! Well done everyone, it's been a blast!
