Nine runners ran 5.6km to help Sustrans and the Canal & River Trust

With the light closing in fast we learned that our planned task up at Belgrave Lock would not be suitable. Never fear, the GoodGym crew will always find some good to do in the community so we went out to help both the Canal & River Trust and Sustrans with some litter picking along the River Soar and on National Cycle Network routes 6 and 63. We welcomed Nick and Ashley to their first group run with us - give them a cheer! We hope you enjoyed it and are looking forward to seeing you again as soon as Thursday for our community mission. We heard about Dave and Mel's ghost running at the weekend, Sharon's brilliant parkrun and Stu's trip to take part in the Lisbon half marathon. Well done all for some great running this week! We also said a big well done to Michaela who ran her 50th good deed tonight - she was also behind a big surprise for some of the runners tonight, more of that later!

Seven of us set off along the river for a run while Dave and Mel walked along the river litter picking meeting us at the Statue of Liberty (not that one) with the litter pickers as we completed our run. We then attacked Bede Park from three directions clearing litter from routes 6 and 63 of the National Cycle Network. We even made a new friend, who, although his words occasionally appeared unfriendly, was in the end I hope impressed by our community work once we'd tried to explain it to him. He didn't seem too keen on us pointing our "cameras" (head torches) at him though!

Litter cleared, the runners headed up to the King Power for some sprint work, 15 sets of 30m sprints starting every 30 seconds with Huw desperately trying to link the number of each sprint to the squad number of the relevant LCFC player. Nick and Jimmy certainly seemed to hammer it on the 9th sprint in true Jamie Vardy style!

We returned to DMU where the big surprise was unveiled. Michaela had used her fantastic skills to produce GoodGym "medals" to mark people's 50th and 100th good deeds. Fittingly she was the first recipient of a 50 medal with Jimmy, Mel, Dave, Stu and Huw also receiving mementoes of their achievements with the group. Others who have reached the 50 landmark will also receive one of these fantastic bits of bling the next time they attend a group run. Thanks so much Michaela, everyone was delighted!

Thanks to Mel, Nick and Sharon who all took some pictures on tonight's run - much appreciated as nobody wants to see Huw's awful night time photography again this winter!

A cracking effort tonight from everyone and what a pleasure it will be to see most people again in just two days time as we run a community mission to mark World Polio Day - more details of that here. Do come and join us if you can!

We have some great tasks coming up over the next few weeks helping out Perfectly Edible UK, Menphys and (woo hoo!) Scope among others. Find out all about them here.

Happy running, HD
