Digging trenches in compacted stony ground is difficult enough in normal conditions and takes even more determination after a heatwave, leaving the soil dry and hard – but we triumphed! Thanks to a fantastic show of GoodGym energy and muscle power, we dug deep not just once (lifting away top soil) but twice (loosening lower level soil and incorporating organic matter), helping to create the perfect conditions for rapid growth of new saplings soon to be planted at the Ladywell Fields Tiny Forest. Equally impressively, we pounded into place another 10 posts ready for fencing to be installed around the site of the forest extension.
This was a first ever task for Meriel – welcome to GoodGym! There will be plenty more opportunities for all of us to help with double digging and other tasks supporting this ambitious community-led project before planting day in early December.

14 GoodGymers shouting each others names, 4 tennis balls, a couple running round in circles and we had a perfectly chaotic warm up. And everyone got a quick reminder of each others names! Oli, Julian, Paul, Sarah...glad I had a reminder, I'd never of remembered their names! Just joking my wonderful regulars!!
This week it was off the The Albany, which is a great Theatre in Deptford but also a hot spot for rubbish.
Our tasks for the evening were to patrol the perimeter (and the rest of the garden) to see what litter we could find. We usually find some gems and this week I'd say less gem and more disgusting - a nappy which I'm reliably informed was used.
The second group tackled the weeds in between the paving stones. There was also the mandatory lesson in sweeping from Paul. Isaac is now an expert sweeper!
It wasn't long before we lost daylight and we were all weeding. A good reminder that it is now most definitely head torch season.
We have a brand new task next week and we're heading to the Young Lewisham Project to help with the painting. Remember to wear your oldest GG top that you don't mind getting paint splatters on.

Angela Park has done their first good deed with GoodGym.
Angela is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

It was wonderful to see so many new faces gathering at Glass Mill yesterday evening - hope you all enjoying your first good deeding! You also smashed the longer run, it's our longest group run so everything can only be shorter now (until we return to The PNK Garden).
Tonight was meant to make us into German TV stars but it wasn't meant to be, there was no film crew waiting for our arrival at the PNK Garden. Maybe next time or maybe another GG area will be TV stars.
Anyway, onto the task! There was lots and lots of weeding to be done at the garden tonight. A good old fashioned GG task of pulling up as many weeds as possible, we managed to fill 2x tonne bags!! Amazing work!
Rewarded for our efforts with various vegetables from the garden including 2 little pumpkins, the first group began to make their way back to Glass Mill whilst the remaining group carried the bags around to dispose of in the bins. No BadGym here!
We bid farewell to Lara (thank you for the vegetables) and made our way back to Glass Mill where the 2 groups reunited.
Next week we're heading to The Albany and celebrating the achievements of those that are running Vitality 10000 on Sunday.
