Merton Report written by Caroline Helder
The tranquil garden is looking lovely and we were able to see how the log work we did last time has been transformed into seating. Tonight we were tasked with painting the wooden planters green and gold, as well as moving logs and clearing some brambles. It was great to see Georgina, who popped by while doing a litter pick. With her arm on the mend, hopefully she will be back at sessions soon. The nights are drawing in, so we were working in darkness by the end of the task but hopefully the results will be brush-taking! Thanks to Maggie, who lives nearby, for kindly donating some post-session chocolate, meaning that team green and team gold were transformed into team mint and team orange.

London's community half marathon went red this year! 🔥
A huge congratulations to the oodles of GoodGym folk who caught well-earned happy mornings under a hot-hot-hot late summer sun ☺️
It was the biggest joy seeing you all!
Please send me your photos (!) and I will pop them up here (alexmurtough@goodgym.org) ❤️

It was a great visit to Mrs. R's garden for the third time to see our hard work is really paying off! We tackled some tough jobs, clearing out deeply rooted plants, stubborn nettles, and thorny brambles. We also got rid of old plant pot debris and then rearranged some large potted plants to fill the area cleared.

A callout for volunteers at Merton's Community Fridge was answered by our dedicated GoodGym members. They tackled the post-distribution clean-up dealing first with the numerous boxes. A sudden downpour added a new challenge with some strategic "rain-dodging" to get everything into the bins. But a little rain can't dampen our spirit - we got it done!

It may have been threatening to tip it down but that didn't deter our trusty crew of GoodGymers from walking, running and cycling over to Beverley Park. The weeds have been running rampant since our visit a few months ago, so our job was to pull them out, then cover the ground with cardboard and top with mulch. It was a fantastic effort by everyone before the light faded. Jon kindly rounded off the evening by sharing a bara brith cake brought back from his trip to Wales. Yaki dah!

Mrs R is unable to complete the gardening on her own and once the garden has been cleared and the overgrowth cut she will be able to have a full safe use of her garden again.
