Merton

Help with maintaining the space for growing produce in the local community.

Fri 5th Dec at 11:00am
A productive morning at Mitcham Orchard preparing the orchard for the colder months:
Mulching: We spread mulch around the trees. Learning that this vital layer insulates roots, retains moisture, and suppresses weeds. Harvesting herbs: The air was filled with fragrance as we harvested the rosemary and oregano, carefully bunching the sprigs. These bundles are now ready for drying and sharing, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
It was a delightful and productive session, with everyone enjoying the fresh air and the satisfaction of getting outside and active.

Provided some last minute support at Merton's Community Fridge with the post-distribution clean-up, tackling the sad sight of lots of excess bread.

It was great to stop by and help tidy up after The Open Table community lunch today as hadn't been there for some time. Also great to get out during a break.
With a delivery to sort and tables to clear, of course having Henry (the vacuum) join me was the highlight (is my favourite job).
Hope to be back again soon.

Merton Report written by Caroline Helder
For tonight's group session we got sew busy helping Little ARK in their new makers' space. It was a perfect night to be indoors, especially as the rain poured down outside!
We split the team across three different rooms, to diligently sift through boxes and bags of fabric and haberdashery. Not only did we sort, wrap, and fold the materials into colour groups, but we also got busy cutting fabrics in preparation for making essential draught excluders.
Making good progress in the alloted hour, we then headed out into the rain for the soggy return run/walk/cycle but will no doubt be back soon as there's plenty more to do.
Well done team - we did sew good!
